Project Description
Following the grant of permission for a first-phase pilot scheme in 2010, permission was granted in 2013 for an extension to the Glove Factory Studios in Holt, Wiltshire. The extension proposal provides sufficient space to establish a critical mass for this locally acclaimed work hub, along with a new landscaped car park and flood alleviation/amenity lake in a high-quality landscaped setting.
The vision is a derivative of an urban work-hub model already successfully established in London by the founder of the Glove Factory Studios, Nick Kirkham. The first phase proved demand for a rural work-hub model, and provides incubation space for start-up businesses and SMEs. An integral part of the model includes a focal café/project space facility, which has provided popular in its own right. The hub also accommodates retail space for the National Trust, which has several properties nearby.
Permission for the extension to the Glove Factory Studios was granted following an extensive round of community engagement, and achieved the full support Wiltshire Council officials and the Council’s Western Area Planning Committee.
Further to providing assistance with the discharge of planning conditions and remodelling of the attenuation ponds, work on the ponds and car park extension has commenced, and construction of the extension scheduled for the latter part of 2014.
