Project Description
PlanningSphere secured permanent planning permission in April 2023 for the world-renowned Glastonbury Festival. This was achieved at the final meeting of Mendip District Councils’s Planning Board prior to the formation of the new unitary Somerset Council.
The application submission included a counsel’s opinion explaining the relationship between planning and licencing. The elements of the proposal that required planning permission related to permanent and temporary infrastructure and staff camping.
Environmental Impact Assessment was screened out following an extensive process undertaken with civil servants at the Planning Casework Unit. The proposal included both on-site and off-site ecological mitigation, and a range of conditions were agreed covering various technical matters relating to the ‘build and break’ process.
The new permanent planning permission is now aligned with the permanent Premises Licence, and will secure the future of the Festival in perpetuity.
